PRiG Project

About PRiG Project

Patient-driven Rare Diseases iPS Genome Information Bank Project (PRiG Project) was launched in September 2010 to improve the basic environment for research and development of new treatment methods and medicines for rare diseases by using latest science technologies, iPS cells and Genome Analysis.
The focused group of diseases in this project is rare diseases that are not covered by the Research Program for Overcoming Intractable Disease led by the government.
In the future, the stored iPS cells and Analyzed Genome Information of the rare disease patients will be contributed, under the patient's agreement, to the researchers and research institutions around the world for finding cure and developing therapeutic products.

iPS Cell(induced pluripotent stem cell)

A cell that has the abilities to develop a variety of human cells and to replicate and grow almost infinitely

PRiG Project Overview

Genome Information Analysis Project

We aim to establish a Genome Information Bank where information of disease-causing genes identified by analyzing the whole genome of rare disease patients is stored.
The banked gene information will be made an effective use in both research and clinical fields, such as in making disease-model animals needed for research or in confirming diagnosis for patients who have been undiagnosed.
We will launch with "National Institute of Genetics" and "Tokai University School of Medicine".

iPS Cells Bank Project

We will store iPS cells established from rare disease patients' blood and provide them to the researchers and research institutions around the world that are willing to study them for finding cure and developing therapeutic products.
We will launch with "The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo" and "Tokai University School of Medicine".
